Worried about Benzene in your drinking water?

January 8th, 2019 - Recent water quality test results have confirmed the presence of benzene in the Paradise Irrigation District service area. It is believed that the contamination occurred when burning plastics, smoke, soot, and ash were drawn into the water system during the devastating Camp Fire.

Benzene is classified by the EPA as a known human carcinogen, and exposure can also cause anemia, a decrease in blood platelets and reproductive concerns.

The Paradise Irrigation District is warning residents NOT to drink, cook or brush your teeth with untreated tap water. Residents are also advised to take short showers using lukewarm water in a ventilated area, not to take baths and to wash clothing in cold water. Boiling the water will not make it safe.

Culligan has a water treatment solution for benzene. It consists of a two-tank Culligan® Whole Home System in a lead-lag configuration. The treatment tanks utilize Cullar G media for the removal of benzene and other VOCs that may be in the water. We also install a Culligan® Aqua-Cleer Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water System, a 5 stage water purification unit that includes a Total Defense Cartridge.
